What is ICRI-Africa?

ICRI Africa is an International NGO based in Nairobi, Kenya. ICRI-Africa provides capacity building, resources, information sharing and infrastructure development for grassroots organizations working with communities in Kenya. ICRI-Africa will be expanding its program to other parts of Africa by the end of the year 2006.

Is ICRI-Africa a US organization?

ICRI-Africa is affiliated with the International Child Resource Institute based in Berkeley, CA. USA. ICRI-Africa is registered as a Kenyan NGO and is headed by Kenyan nationals.

What is the difference between ICRI-Africa and other international organizations?

ICRI-Africa is headed and staffed by Kenyan nationals. The problems and solutions are locally defined and driven. ICRI-HQ provides mentoring, consulting and international linkage to our work. ICRI-HQ has developed a unique approach to international development which allows for local leadership, thus promoting sustainable development and locally appropriate solutions to local problems

Do you charge for Grassroots Advocacy Project training for NGOs/CBOs?

Training is free for small grassroots organizations. A vetting process is used to determine who receives the funding for free. This is especially so because space is limited to few trainees. Please contact ICRI-Africa to find out more about our training calendar and availability of space.

Does ICRI-Africa provide funding for NGOs/CBOs?

ICRI-Africa is NOT a funding agency. It is an NGO that works in partnership with local organizations. ICRI-Africa is working closely with donors to identify and support local grassroots organizations. We DO NOT ACCEPT Unsolicited PROPOSALS. The groups identified for potential funding through the Traveling Giving Circle are groups identified through the ICRI-Africa Grassroots Advocacy Project.

Does ICRI-Africa partner with organizations based in the US and Europe?

ICRI-Africa provides a gateway for groups, individuals and institutions seeking opportunities to get involved in Africa. ICRI-Africa works with groups that respect the local knowledge and skills of groups in Africa and that want to share their ideas, resources and lessons learned. ICRI-Africa has partnered with several groups working in the US and in Europe. Such groups include XAcess, Clarence Foundation, The Falconer Group, Project Baobab, ICRI-Europe, Whole Child International among other groups. ICRI-Africa also helps individuals and groups seeking to link up with grassroots organizations in Kenya.

Is funding to ICRI-Africa tax deductible for US donors?

All funding from US donors is tax deductible. Please earmark your funds to “ICRI-Africa”. The checks/donations should be mailed to the ICRI-HQ, 1581, LeRoy Avenue, Berkeley, CA. USA. How can I wire funds to support ICRI-Africa?

You can wire finds directly to ICRI-Africa. However, if you are in the US, it is easier to wire the funds to the US Office.

This is a unique and innovative project that gives donors a chance to visit Kenya and explore about the country, culture and to engage directly with local leaders in the fields of education, health, and human services.
