SOCIAL MICROENTERPRISE INITIATIVE, KENYA
Social Microenterprise Initiative, funded by the Arthur B. Schultz Foundation, www.absfoundation.org , is a micro loan facility aimed at financing enterprises with a maximum of ten employees to acquire capital equipments. Microenterprises do not posses the collateral required by the traditional banking to acquire loans hence the vitality of SMI loan.
The Microenterprise repays the loan amount, interest-free, with in-kind product or services (always valued at retail!) to the poor in their community such as provision of milk, cooking oil, crisps etc to children homes, homes for the disabled.
Social Microenterprise Initiative, Kenya, is arousing a lot of interest with an average of five enquiries weekly on the concepts and principles of Social Microenterprise Initiative.
Lives are being transformed, hope restored and wealth created. Thanks to the Arthur B Schultz Foundation under the able leadership of Erik Schultz. This is a project to watch here at ICRI! We are excited and look forward to filling the blank pages with SMI highlights.
